There is extensive research showing the benefits from getting enough sleep at night. Do you feel like you are not getting enough sleep? Most adults need between 7-9 hours of sleep a night, so anything less than that is not enough. Sleep is a major contributor to health, happiness, and energy. Most of the reasoning behind not getting enough sleep would be the fact that many of us can’t get to bed on time, or “can’t turn out the lights”. If you feel you need more sleep or are having a hard time falling asleep at night, try these helpful tips:
1. Give yourself a specific bedtime and follow it.
2. Don’t wait until you feel sleepy. It’s very easy to stay busy well past the time that you were supposed to be asleep.
3. Stay away from the internet for at least an hour before going to bed. The internet is more apt to make you feel wide awake.
4. Don’t drink caffeine for several hours before your bedtime.
5. Remind yourself how great it feels to wake up naturally, before the alarm goes off, without that sickening jolt into wakefulness.
6. Get ready for bed well ahead of time.
7. Create a bedtime ritual or routine such as drinking herbal tea or reading in bed.

Krista, these are great tips. I am a total night owl and often times I have a hard time following asleep. It is amazing the power of a goodnight sleep. I used to watch television as I was trying to fall asleep. This definitely does not work. I have also found out that if I get workout in some time through the day I sleep much better. I also like to keep my bedroom really cold by using a fan. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI really like these tips to getting better sleep. I know for sure I'm not getting enough sleep, but I'm definitely going to take some of these tips to heart and try them out, especially staying away from the internet before bed. Great tips!
ReplyDeleteI really like this blog post. Your tips were great for getting more sleep. I also liked the tips on the article that you linked on your post. I liked tip #7 about creating a ritual the best. I feel like that’s a step I should take, to begin getting good sleep. On a regular night I get 5 hours at the most. Sometimes I just don’t have the time, but most days I just don’t prioritize sleep like I should.
